This is a very interesting piece The History of ID Software:

The theme over the course of these recent “A Short History of…” pieces, for those who have been following, is independence: the struggle to achieve it for one’s self or for others, or simply its presence in places where you’d never expect to find it. It is that cooperative struggle for indivduality, for the assertion of our humanity, that leads us to all grace.

The other articles on the bottom are also interesting and not terribly different from the Software Success Series.
